"I spent all my time wondering 'what if,' then one day I woke up and I was 33." She's not that bad-looking, but before she knew it, Rinko was thirty-something and single. She wants to be married by the time the Tokyo Olympics roll around in six years, but...that might be easier said than done! The new series by Akiko Higashimura erupts with sharp opinions on girls and tons of laughs!!

We’re introduced to Rinko, Kaori and Koyuki who are 33 and wish to marry in the next six years for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. We also meet a stranger, later revealed to be Key, who complains to Rinko and co. about their ‘what-if’ stories. After the Key’s complaint, Rinko realises that she and her friends were out of time. Rinko plans to quit her job after losing it to a younger and less experienced scriptwriter. Key intervenes and suggests that she sleeps with him to get ahead in the industry.

I hadn’t heard anything about Tokyo Tarareba Girls when I bought the manga on Amazon. My only knowledge was that Akiko Higashimura created the series. After reading the first volume, I was desperate for the second volume. I love the humour in this manga and the personalities of the characters. This story seems relevant as high school classmates of mine are starting to get married. Whereas I still live at home with my parents and single. Like Rinko, I realised that life is short if I have any intention of getting married and having children. But unlike Rinko and co., I’m still in my early twenties… for now.
